The audit playbook Moonrank's SEO Agent uses to find the technical and on-page problems costing you traffic — and return them ranked by impact, not by checklist.
Download the methodology, see how the agent ranks fixes, or run it live inside the SEO Agent.
--- name: seo-audit description: Run a prioritized technical and on-page SEO audit of a site, and return fixes ordered by impact rather than by checklist. owner: Moonrank SEO Agent --- # SEO Audit Most audits return 300 issues and no decisions. This one returns the short list of things that will actually move traffic, in the order to do them. ## When to use - Traffic is flat or falling and you don't know which layer is at fault. - You inherited a site and need to know what's broken before you plan content. - You have a long audit export and no way to rank what matters. ## Inputs - **Required:** the domain to audit. - **Optional:** Search Console access for query data, and the pages that matter commercially. ## Method 1. **Crawl:** fetch the site as a bot; record status codes, redirects, canonicals, and render differences. 2. **Index:** compare what's crawlable to what's actually indexed; find the orphans and the accidental noindex. 3. **On-page:** check titles, H1s, meta descriptions, and heading structure against the query each page targets. 4. **Intent match:** flag pages ranking for queries their content doesn't answer. 5. **Speed & rendering:** measure Core Web Vitals on templates, not just the homepage. 6. **Rank:** score every issue by traffic at risk × effort, and cut everything below the line. ## Output format A prioritized fix list. For each issue: - **Impact**: high | medium | low - **Effort**: S | M | L - **Scope**: template | section | single page - **Fix**: the specific change, written so a developer can ship it ## Prioritization rules - Template-level issues before page-level ones; one fix, hundreds of pages. - Anything blocking indexation outranks everything else. - Ignore issues on pages with no traffic and no commercial intent. - If a fix can't be described in one sentence, it isn't specified yet.
The SEO Audit skill is Moonrank's audit methodology: how the SEO Agent crawls a site, separates the issues that cost traffic from the ones that don't, and returns a fix list in the order a team should actually work it.
It's written as a SKILL.md, a plain-language instruction format that people and AI agents can both follow. Read it to audit your own site, hand it to a contractor as a scope, or let the SEO Agent run it end to end.
Downloading the playbook is free with a Moonrank account. Running it continuously — re-auditing as the site changes and shipping the fixes — is what the SEO Agent does every day.
“Our organic traffic dropped 30% after the site redesign. What happened?”
The new template canonicalizes every paginated listing to page one, so 1,400 product URLs dropped out of the index. Two of your top three landing pages now 302 to a locale selector. Fix the canonical rule first — it's one template change and it recovers most of the loss — then the redirect chain, then the thin category copy.
Paste the site to audit, and connect Search Console if you want query-level context.
The SEO Agent records status codes, canonicals, indexation, rendering, and on-page structure.
Every finding is scored by impact and effort, and everything below the line is cut.
Each issue comes with a one-sentence change a developer or editor can act on today.
Status codes, redirect chains, canonicals, and what a bot sees versus a browser.
Orphan pages, accidental noindex, and the gap between crawlable and indexed.
Titles, H1s, meta descriptions, and heading hierarchy against the target query.
Pages ranking for queries their content doesn't actually answer.
Speed measured where it matters — on templates, not just the homepage.
A short ordered list instead of a 300-row export nobody works through.
