The playbook Moonrank's X Agent uses to turn a piece of work into a thread that earns reach on its first post and holds attention all the way down.

--- name: x-thread description: Turn a piece of work into an X thread that earns reach on its first post and holds attention to the last. owner: Moonrank X Agent --- # X Thread On X the first post does all the work. Everything after it is retention. Threads fail because post one was context, or because post seven had nothing to say. ## When to use - You have a result, a teardown, or a strong opinion worth unpacking. - Your single posts perform and your threads collapse after post two. - You want distribution for a piece of long-form work. ## Inputs - **Required:** the result or argument, and the audience. - **Optional:** screenshots, charts, and the link you want the thread to drive to. ## Method 1. **Test post one alone:** if it isn't worth posting by itself, the thread is dead. 2. **Pick the shape:** result breakdown, teardown, contrarian argument, or step-by-step. One per thread. 3. **Sequence:** each post advances the argument. If one can be deleted without loss, delete it. 4. **Front-load proof:** the screenshot or number goes in post two, not post nine. 5. **Length:** as long as it stays interesting. Five strong posts beat twelve padded ones. 6. **Close:** a summary post that stands alone, and the link — after value, never before. ## Output format A thread: - **Post 1**: the hook, strong enough to post alone - **Posts 2–n**: one step of the argument each, with proof early - **Final post**: the standalone summary, plus the link or CTA - **Media**: which posts carry a screenshot or chart ## Prioritization rules - Never open with "a thread 🧵". Open with the claim. - One argument per thread. Two arguments is two threads. - Cut any post that only exists to set up the next one. - If the link is the only reason the thread exists, don't post the thread.
The X Thread skill is how Moonrank's X Agent structures a thread around the only two things that matter on the platform: a first post strong enough to stand alone, and a sequence where nothing can be deleted without loss.
It's written as a SKILL.md, a plain-language instruction format that people and AI agents can both follow. Read it to fix your own threads, or let the X Agent turn an article, a result, or a teardown into one.
Downloading the playbook is free with a Moonrank account. Turning your published work into distribution on a cadence is what the X Agent does for you.
“My threads get impressions on post one and nobody reads past post two. Why?”
Post one is a promise, not a claim — "here's what we learned about pricing 🧵" gives a reader nothing to react to. Post two is more setup. Your actual number doesn't appear until post six. Rewrite: put the result in post one, the chart in post two, and cut posts three and four entirely — they only exist to set up post five.
A result, a teardown, or an argument — plus the audience it's for.
If the first post isn't worth posting by itself, the X Agent rewrites it before going further.
One step per post, proof front-loaded, and anything deletable deleted.
A standalone summary post, with the link after the value rather than before it.
Post one has to work as a single post, or the thread never starts.
Result breakdown, teardown, contrarian argument, or step-by-step — one per thread.
The screenshot or number lands in post two, not post nine.
Any post that only sets up the next one gets cut.
Which posts carry a chart or screenshot, and why.
A standalone summary, then the link — never the other way round.
